Climate of vintage 2017

The year 2017, has been characterized by a very hot climate and the scarcity of climate rainfall.
The mild winter with few snowfall left its place at a spring marked by some rains and temperatures above
the seasonal mean that further favored the development vegetative of the vine, which has been immediately anticipated.
At the end of April throughout Italy there was a sharp drop in temperatures, especially at night,
causing frost damage but, in the Langhe, they affected only the bottom valleys and the cooler parts of the hillside.
From May the weather situation has stabilized, the weather is back and in the early summer months
temperatures have reached above average, although unlike other hot years, with cooler nights.

Between the end of August and the beginning of September the long awaited rains led to 25 mm water that is
served to partially rebalance the water supply of the already abundantly inked acines.
From the first week of September, temperatures have given rise to important heat shifts between day and night.
2017 will surely be remembered as an anticipated vintage. The vine has, however, been able to complete its development fully.
Harvesting the Nebbioli began in the second decade of September.

In vineyards
In the vineyard Qualitatively Nebbiolo grapes were not affected neither in quantity nor in terms of quality.
The most delicate grapes like Dolcetto and Barbera have proved to be of excellent quality with a lower yield.
In the vineyard we worked scrupulously by avoiding the complete spitling, but rather, we preferred a basal leaf of only two leaves,
leaving the feminine, cutting the latter, only when very protruding, in order to create an impressive green leaf mass,
then a protective cap for the cluster. The bunch was therefore free from leaves but at the same time covered by the leaves.
Even thinning has been balanced in order not to exceed the amount but not even risk overshooting them.
The grapes at harvest time showed good turgidity, good extraction values and polyphenols, as well as the values of anthocyanins and tannins.

In cellar
The alcoholic fermentation of wines took place in a homogeneous and gradual way. Wines have fullness, texture, pleasant fruit and color.

Our wine tells about Us,
a family that for five generations believe in the history and traditions of its territory.
